Support For Energy Efficient Bulbs Dims Among GOP
I've heard this complaint before, but for some reason hearing this story on NPR this afternoon really wound me up. Seriously, this is where we are as a country, spending time railing against light bulbs?
Anyone saying they get headaches or "the light from them just isn't the same" is full of crap.
It's just one more example in a long line of folks who not only aren't willing to make small steps to be environmentally friendly(er) -- they actually believe it's their God-given right as an 'merican to destroy the environment any way they can.
One Sunday when I was leaving to head back to college for the week, my Mom reminded me as I going out the door, "Don't forget your noodles!," as I was about to leave behind a bowl of leftover noodles. I thought at the time that if I ever wrote my autobiography, that's what I'd call it. It looks like a blog is as close as I'll get to doing that.

Justice?
Oklahoma pharmacist sentenced to life for killing would-be robber
This is the second story I've heard this afternoon that tells me a lot about the bad trajectory this country is on.
Long story short, this pharmacist shot a would-be robber in the head, then went and got another gun and shot him five more times while he lay on the floor unconscious.
The first shot is not a problem; he was protecting himself. Everything after that is just outlaw justice, and we supposedly left that behind in the 1800s. Unfortunately, a lot of Americans romanticize this, and it's no surprise this guy has a lot of supporters.
I am a little surprised that he was tried for first degree murder. I guess there was premeditation in the moments between shooting him the first time and coming back to "finish him off."

Top 20? Yeah.
Paste's Top 20 (so far)
Paste has a couple of top 20 best album lists for 2011. Jason Isbell’s “Here We Rest” doesn’t make the top 20 of the first half of the year? Come on.

In defense of Transformers 3

Not sure why folks hate so much on the Transformers movies ... I mean, I know they're not that great, but they're far from the worst. The above review says it about right, especially this part:
"You want to quibble about character development in “Dark of the Moon?” It’s a movie about ROBOTS IN DISGUISE! Save those debates for the holiday season, when Hollywood shamelessly panders for acclaim and awards with costumed dramas and weepy ensembles where some sickly person stares up at the skies with outstretched arms and rain on his face."

Much ado about chickens
So a blogger for the Washington Post has picked up a video by Democratic Representative Ben Chandler where he is talking to a constituent and when she says that once upon a time when you went to the doctor you paid for the visit out of pocket, and Chandler nods his agreement, saying,
"When you didn't have money, you gave him a chicken. You could barter if you didn't have enough money."
The blogger in question trumpets this as a Democrat suggesting "chickens for checkups," a term made famous after Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sue Lowden suggested people who couldn't pay for health care could barter for it; when pressed on the issue, she said
"Let's change the system and talk about what the possibilities are. I'm telling you that this works. You know, before we all started having health care, in the olden days, our grandparents, they would bring a chicken to the doctor. They would say I'll paint your house."
Now, it's pretty clear to see that the two comments are totally different. Chandler is making an historical reference. In Lowden's case, while she was making an historical reference, she was suggesting that such a barter system would still work. The two quotes are not the same at all.

Christmas blahs?
It's only the second full day of Christmas break, and already I'm restless. Yesterday I read an entire book (Dean Koontz's "Odd Hours") so I don't really want to start another one yet. I've got Stephen King's "Lisey's Story" sitting in front of me now, so maybe I'll start it.
You can tell how bored I am by the fact that I'm updating my blog for the first time in more than four months. All of my fans will be very excited.
I need to come up with some angle for this that will make me famous. I think I could talk politics fairly well, but we've got too many doing that already. I guess I need to get famous some other way so people actually care what I say about stuff. Or I could update this regularly, then when I commit some horrible crime (or am the victim of some horrible crime) the media can report on what they found on my blog. If something happens to me in the near future, they'll be very disappointed.

Cash for (not-so) Clunkers
I have to admit that I'm a little put off by what my liberal friends in government have done with the Cash for Clunkers bill. We're taking perfectly good cars off the road and destroying them.
From a financial standpoint, it's a good program -- if you're spending stimulus money, this is a great way to do it. But they should have made the qualifications on trade-ins stricter, i.e., the car must be at least 10 years old and you must improve gas mileage at least 10 mpg.
I have seen videos online of cars that had no business being taken off the road being destroyed. This will cause a shortage in the used car markets and could negatively impact those poorer folks looking for a cheaper vehicle.
I blame the limousine liberals -- of course, they've traded in their limos for Priuses.
